Fancy a day out doing something a bit different? You need to visit Brooklands Museum. I recently spent the day there and really enjoyed it, here’s a look at what we got up to and what there is to do at Brooklands. Interested in racing or aviation? This is a must see!
Brooklands Museum, Weybridge Surrey
Brooklands Museum is situated on the site of Brooklands race circuit. This was the world’s first purpose-built race circuit and one of the UK’s first airfields – pretty cool! The museum is divided into areas and you can browse around as you wish. You can explore the Aircraft Park, Motoring Village, Aircraft Factory, Flight Shed and Stratosphere Chamber.
Brooklands Aircraft Park
Being a bit of an aviation geek, I was so excited about the Aircraft Park. There are several planes on site which are open and you are free to browse. One of the staff members gave us lots of information about the Vickers V10 and let me and my sister sit in the cockpit, this plane is amazing.
Brooklands Concorde Experience
If you visit, I highly recommend booking the Concorde experience. The Concorde is situated in the Aircraft park but this one is not free to browse like the others, however you can book this tour. It is a brilliant way to see what the Concorde was like.
I don’t want to ruin too much about it for you so i will explain it only briefly. You receive a boarding pass and are met by your guide on the British Airways ‘shuttle bus’, they then take you on-board and you can learn about the history of the Concorde and you experience what it was like to be on onboard.
I would love to have experienced the Concorde in real life – the fastest time recorded to New York from London was 2 hrs and 52 mins, insane!
I love how this museum is very interactive, instead of just looking, you get to board aircraft, you can walk on the Brooklands track and there is even a bus museum and you can go on a few of these too. There are also activities and little extra things for kids to help keep them entertained. If you are looking for something a bit different to do, you should check out Brooklands Museum. No, this isn’t sponsored, I just genuinely enjoyed it!
