Who knew a couple of months back we would be spending a substantial amount of time under lockdown measures? I don’t know about you, but I sure didn’t count this into my plans for 2020. There’s so much negativity in the world right now, it’s hard to stay upbeat during times of crisis.
How to stay positive during difficult times
When we feel down, it’s so easy to forget all of the good things in our lives. No matter how small, try to recognise the things that are positive. Be honest with yourself, what things do you have in your life that sometimes you take for granted. The more you are grateful for what you already have, the less lack you are going to feel. If you follow law of attraction, you will know that this in turn will attract more good things into your life.
Keep your mind busy
Choose yourself things to do that occupy your mind. I find myself overthinking when I am bored or not focusing on something. You can meditate, read, start a new project. Want some ideas? 20 productive things to do at home
Focus on the current moment
If you are struggling with all the uncertainty of the future then just focus on the now. If you are out of work, what can you do to increase your employability? Can you learn a new skill? It’s difficult, but we have to try and make the best of things regardless of the external factors that are shaping our lives at the moment.
Don’t hide your emotions
Feel what you need to feel, sometimes you are going to struggle to just push your feelings to one side and carry on. I feel that sometimes the best thing is to feel sad, give yourself a break for everything and let the feelings out. Don’t forget to focus on taking care of yourself. Here are 10 ideas for self-care ideas.
Plan for the future
Think about the opportunities that will be available to you in future. Nothing is off limits. What would need to happen in the last few months of 2020 to make this a good year for you? Then focus on those things! Or set yourself up for an amazing 2021. I have realised all the small things that I still want to do – down to simple things like restaurants and bars to visit. Maybe lockdown has you thinking about all bucket list type things you have wanted to do but never have. Want to travel? Or move to a different country? why wait? make that your plan for when restrictions are lifted.
Everybody is suffering
We are all allowed to have our own feelings and I’m not saying that they are invalid when others have it worse. However, being completely honest, sometimes I just need a reality check. Some people have lost loved ones and I’m sad because I’ve lost some freedom? It’s so easy to become caught up in our shortcomings that we lose sight on how privileged we are.
Things may not be so great right now, however, life is full of ups and downs. It will get better. If one thing is for sure we will come out of the bad situations with a clearer vision of how we want to live our life and make our normal days happier.
Just remember that tomorrow could be the day that everything could change! I have been job hunting since January with no luck whatsoever. Even at the time of writing this I felt so uncertain about the future. Little did I know within the next 12 hours, I would receive a job offer. Keep working on yourself and stay persistent ❤
