Over the past month or so I started to see people mention DA (Domain Authority) on Twitter. I had no idea what everyone was talking about and if it was something I should be looking into on my blog. After a little bit of research I found out what this DA was that everyone has been talking about. Hopefully this post helps your understanding of DA scores.

What Is Domain Authority?
Domain Authority is a website metric that has been developed by Moz. The system predicts how well a website will rank in a search engine. The score ranges from 1-100, a higher score indicates that a website will have a greater search ranking. As your score gets higher it becomes increasingly difficult to keep raising it. For example, it is easier to increase from 10-20 than it is to increase from 80-90.
The better your website is ranked, chances are you are getting a good amount of traffic. In terms of blogging, many PR opportunities are available to those with around a 20+ DA.
How do I check my Domain Authority score?
I have found two websites which seem fairly reliable when it comes to checking my DA score:
Both of these websites give a full breakdown of the results which make up the score. It does go quite in-depth, but you can pick out some of the main things the site is using to determine your score. Also, if you just want to simply find out your score, you can do this easily after typing in your domain name.
Bear in mind you will only get an accurate score if you have your own domain name. Blogs hosted by blogger or wordpress, as examples, tend to have scores of 99. Not giving a true reflection of your individual blog score. Also, If your domain is new it will take a few months for the score to be calculated and for you to see a true score prediction.
When are the Domain Authority scores updated?
Check the Mozscape website for updates here. This will tell you when the next score release will be. Keep in mind if you score does not change, it may be that your website wasn’t crawled during the update.
How can I improve my Domain Authority score?
So that this post doesn’t get too long. I am going to do a whole post on it’s own about improving your DA score. I figured alot of people may benefit from a post purely explaining what it is. As a fairly new blogger myself, I was in the exact same position recently.
If you are new to blogging, I wouldn’t get caught up in your DA score too much. It is great to have awareness of what it is and how you can impact it. If you aren’t familiar already, I would definitely gain an understanding on how you can improve SEO within your blog posts. Equipped with this knowledge your score should increase over time. I recommend focusing on creating high quality content and interacting within the blogging community.
If you have been blogging a little while and are now beginning to seek PR opportunities. You should definitely be checking your DA score and actively working to improve it. As mentioned earlier, large companies tend to seek a DA score of 20+.
