This is it, the final chapter of a trip that has well and truly changed my life. It is the best decision I have ever made, by far. Six weeks non stop travelling through the USA, I have honestly made the most amazing memories and it was so much more than I could have ever imagined it would be.
*On May 29th 2019, I travelled with Trek America on their Grand Trek tour for six weeks around the USA. We began in New York, travelling south to the West Coast, then North back to the East Coast. I am not affiliated with Trek America. Read all my Trek America posts here. *
Driving across the state of New York
I was amazed at how different the state of New York is outside of the city we all think of! It would be so cool to live here and be that close to New York City. This whole day I don’t think any of us actually realised we were leaving.
Ithaca Bakery
Our leader brought us to Ithaca Bakery for lunch. Another very random stop that turned out to be so good. The bakery has lots of sandwiches, soups & drinks. All freshly prepared!
Back at Newark Hilton
Look familiar? Yep that’s back where we started. When we started to see signs on the freeway for Newark, I just had this sinking feeling. The realisation that this 6 week dream trip was actually coming to an end. We had to say goodbye to everyone who wasn’t staying in Newark.
That evening I had a bath and then went for dinner with Anna in the hotel. The next day, us girls heading back to London were going to NYC for the day as our flight wasn’t until the evening.
Last Goodbyes
Our final goodbyes as the whole Grand Trek Fam. It was only us 6 that did the whole trip. Who knows if we will all be together again, but we made memories that will be cherished forever.
Final Day In New York
My third time visiting New York and I am still completely in love with this city. I still hope to come back again someday.
We only had a couple of hours before we needed to head back to the airport, so I planned a little route to show the girls who hadnt been before, some of the main things to see.
A couple of hours in New York?
- Times Square
- Central Park
- Walked down 5th Avenue
- Rockefeller Centre
- Across to 8th Avenue to Pennsylvania Station (you can see the Empire State Building from here).
This was as much as we managed to fit in – bearing in mind we weren’t particularly rushed, we still had time to stop for breakfast and lunch. Not bad at all for just a couple of hours!
The journey getting back to Newark wasn’t too difficult, if you want to visit New York and want to keep to a budget, definitely check out hotels outside of Manhattan. Once you work out the route, it’s not difficult at all and doesn’t take too long.
