8 Productivity Hacks | Stop Procrastinating

January 20, 2020 in Productivity

Keep finding yourself sat, staring blankly at your screen? Or do you pick up your phone and start scrolling without even realising? The less you seem to be accomplishing the more frustrated you get. Here are 8 productivity hacks to help you overcome procrastination and get more done.

1. Make a plan

There have been so many times where I have put off doing something, simply because I had no idea where to start. If you struggle with this, try thinking the night before and set out exactly what you expect to achieve throughout the next day. That way, you can get straight on with it.

2. Use time blocks

When you know you have the whole day to complete something, you can put off starting due to knowing that you have ‘loads of time’. What you are actually doing is just procrastinating and wasting your own time. You could be a lot more efficient by saying, I have 1 hour to complete these things. If you are working, this could be a great way to make time within your day to complete other tasks.

3. Reward yourself

If you are really struggling with motivating yourself, try implementing a reward system. The reward can be as small or big as you feel fits. Chances are, knowing that you will then get this reward, you will be much more likely to complete the task at hand.

4. Do the ‘minimum’

This strategy I have actually been using myself and have found it to have made a big difference to my productivity. It’s worked really well in regards to the new year and having multiple habits to implement. This works best with smaller tasks or things that can be measured with time. I have since implemented a daily workout routine, blogging tasks and maintaining my pinterest account. Once I have finished those daily minimum tasks, its not the end of the world if I don’t go any further than that. You do need to consider your priorities and tasks that are on a deadline. I feel my mindset is a lot better knowing that I have achieved ‘this, this and this’. rather than feeling down because I barely made a dent in my to-do list.

5. Exercise

I find that when I get really stuck and I am not feeling creative or productive, exercising helps massively. Whether its a walk or a workout routine, my mindset completely transforms. Using the method above, you can make your ‘must do’ tasks all things that are going to help you mentally & physically and let the productivity follow! The best thing is, you can completely customise and try things to establish whats works best for you.

6. Read or watch motivational content

I absolutely love being inspired and motivated by others. We live in an age where we have access to amazing content that can influence how we feel, so why not use it to your advantage? Combine this with the above and you are going to be ready to smash those goals.

7. Turn off distractions

Online content is shifting and becoming much more focused on providing infinite scrolling content. It is designed to steal away your attention. Leaving you less time for you and your goals. A very useful tool is the screen time feature, allowing you to physically see how much time you are spending on your phone. Think about how much time this accumulates over a week.

8. Using measurable goals

Finally, to tie all of these points together. Create yourself smaller, measurable goals. Don’t fool yourself into pretending you are ‘busy’, be productive! The easiest way to do this is to quantify what you have actually done. For example, how long did you run for? how many blog posts have you written? You can incorporate this into your do the ‘minimum’ tasks productivity strategy. When you analyse this over a month, look how much progress you will have made!

Are you able to describe exactly what you have achieved at the end of the day? If you answer doesn’t meet your own expectation – these tips will help you work on it!

Have a think about these 8 productivity tips and the impact they could have on your daily routine. If you work on overcoming procrastination and getting better at self-discipline, how much more could you achieve? I think the answer for most of us, is a lot more than we are doing right now.
