If you are fairly new to blogging, it is difficult trying to work out which social media platforms to sign up to and which ones are going to be beneficial for your blog. I want to share with you my most used platforms at this point in time. If you having been blogging for a long time, please share your favourite platforms in a comment below.
WordPress.org
Last month I migrated my blog from blogger to wordpress. I am really enjoying using wordpress.org so far as it gives me so much control over my blog. It now looks exactly how I want it to and if I felt the need to change it, I can so this easily. I also love the plugins that you can add to your blog – for example – there are plugins that will help SEO optimise your posts as you are writing them. The only downside is that you have to pay for hosting and a domain – you can find really good deals for this though, don’t be disheartened. I would suggest getting started first on a free platform, you can then choose to migrate your blog at any time.
I have been using Twitter for my blog for about three weeks now and I absolutely love it. The blogging community is extremely welcoming and encouraging. Not only have I met some amazing bloggers but I am continuously finding more, especially through the Twitter Chats that are hosted throughout the week. Besides the platform you use to actually run your blog I would definitely recommend Twitter as your first platform to link with your blog. You can use it to promote your content and gain readers. As mentioned, there is a huge community that you can get involved with and meet other bloggers.
Most people will say that Pinterest really helps drive traffic to their blog or website. Personally I haven’t found this yet, instead I prefer to use Pinterest for inspiration. Whether I am looking for upcoming trends or new products or photography tips, Pinterest usually has the answer. I used Pinterest a long time before blogging so I use it to research lots of things, not just blogging related.
Bloglovin
As soon as I started my blog I linked up a Bloglovin account. I personally find it a bit of an odd platform – You can view posts through the Bloglovin interface. Being able to view alot of posts as once is good if you are looking for new bloggers. I definitely think I have picked up some traction in terms of followers since using Twitter, before then I gained followers once in a while. I have included Bloglovin in this list as I would recommend to bloggers because it doesn’t really need up-keeping. Bloglovin indexes your posts for you and updates when you post new ones.
I have used Instagram for a long time to post my own photography and images of family/friends etc. At this point in time I don’t use it to post anything blog related but I do follow other bloggers on there. I love seeing other peoples photography and getting inspiration. I have recently seen that Instagram has been difficult for well established bloggers to grow their following on and the engagement has been low. If you have a talent for photography, I would definitely recommend getting your blog on there. I would love to have an Instagram that has a consistent theme, but it’s so difficult to do!
