HAYLEYXMARTIN - WHY YOU NEED GOALS

I have never been a huge believer in setting myself goals, but I have always been driven and have known what I want long term. When I quit my job, almost three months ago, I knew I would need to give myself constructive things to do. At work I have always had goals and things I was working towards. But I have never really applied this to my own life. I have a rough idea of what I want to do and where I see myself in the future. Yet I never commit to goals that can be measured and achieved in a set amount of time.

It wasn’t until recently that I realised, it is your goals that enable you to achieve and progress. Even if it is a subconscious decision to actively pursue something i.e – starting a blog. It is this decision that is creating a goal for yourself. Why is this important? We all need a sense of achievement. No matter how big or small the goal is. In order to stay motivated we need to know that what we are doing is helping us move towards where we want to be. This becomes incredibly clear when not in employment. I found myself losing motivation and sense of purpose.

Over the past few months I have put alot of work into my blog and where I want it to go in future. I am also planning to start my own business. With both of these things I have realised in order to keep them moving in the right direction, I need to create both short and long term goals. Using these goals, I then create my daily/weekly/monthly action plans to determine how I am going to achieve this.

Why You Need Goals:

  • Increase Motivation

  • Gives You Direction

  • Measure Your Progress

  • Helps You To Create A Plan Of Action

  • Success Is Determined In The Achievement Of Your Goals

You can create goals for any area of your life. For example, if you are feeling down about your blog, maybe the traffic isn’t what you had hope. Have you set yourself goals and actively put in place actions that are going to enable you to achieve this. If you never made a realistic goal if it difficult for you to gauge if you need to work harder at something, or if actually you are doing really well.

I wanted to share this post even if it only helps one person. A lot of these points seem really obvious, but do you actually apply and create action in your own personal life. The amount of times I have read bloggers saying how they feel down about their blog or they are unmotivated. Maybe its just a case of loss of direction, of which a few goals will solve.

Let me know your thoughts, are you a goal setter or just aim in the general direction of what you want?

Do you feel setting measurable goals would help you?

I totally agree. Everyone needs goals, or else we would all feel so unmotivated. My goals of the month are to be more active on my blog, ans social media.
