Book One – Life is What You Make It: Your Mind Matters

This book has had a huge impact on the way I think and brought my mindset to a much happier place when I really needed it. One of the points this book makes that has stuck with me is that emotions don’t come from objects or people. I have always felt that materialistic items aren’t the answer to your happiness but have never considered this from a people point of view. When we feel happy it is because we’ve got what we want at that specific moment. It is not the thing itself that is making up happy it is because our mind feels satisfied. By replicating the way we feel, for example the feeling of love, we are able to generate happiness with our own minds. The book also explains that sometimes we must let our emotions pass, nobody is going to feel happy all the time. Life is full of ups and downs, we just have to learn to deal with our emotions and how they make us feel and remember that we will feel happy again.

Book one is 76 pages and my kindle suggests it will take less than hour to read. I didn’t read it all in one sitting but it was definitely a short read. I like this as it helps to keep me interested when there are short chapters. You can really take in the information and process what you are reading. The format of the book is really easy to read and gives you real life examples throughout the book. I am really considering purchasing the rest of the series.

Whatever you think will make you happy, it’s not that thing. Of course, it’s important to have goals in life, to have a sense of purpose – but don’t fall into the trap of putting your happiness in the hands of those things, because when you do that, you’re missing your actual life, here and now. Goals exist in our minds. Happiness exists now.”
