Five ways to live a healthy, positive & happy life

hayleyxmartin | five ways to live a healthy, positive & happy life

I am currently on a career break, if you weren’t aware you can read the posts here. Knowing that this is possibly the only time I will be in position, I really want to utilise the time and get as much out of it as I possibly can. Working since I was sixteen and going straight from school, to college and university, then a graduate job where I was working, on average twelve hours each day. It’s safe to say I have a lot of general life admin tasks that have been neglected. I never had time to do things and develop skills other than those used at work. I also felt my personal well-being was being affected, I wasn’t drinking adequate amounts of water and couldn’t fit in an exercise routine in my unpredictable work schedule. My goal for my blog is to be a positive space that can help others which is why I am sharing these areas with you.

Five ways to live a healthy, positive & happy life

Drinking Water –

There are many benefits for drinking lots of water throughout the day:

  • Reduce headaches
  • Boost energy levels
  • Improve your mood
  • Boost your immune system
  • Improve your complexion

This is a focus I wish to carry on when I get a new work schedule. I definitely believe it played a part in feeling tired and unhappy. When looking online, a general measure for how much water you should drink is, your weight in pounds divided by 2 and that will give you how many oz you should drink each day. I then convert this to litres as it’s easier for me to measure this way.

Exercise Routine –

I really enjoy working out and developing routines to target areas I want to work on. It really boosts my mood and makes me feel motivated. During my career break I want create a routine that I can carry on into my new job. It is so important to have a healthy work/life balance.

CV Refresh –

In order to start applying for jobs, my CV is in definite need of an update and redesign. Updating my CV is going to get me in the right mindset for interviews. I will be doing a post on this later on this month, sharing my tips for my CV and how I redesigned it.

Blog –

When I started to think about what I wanted to achieve on my career break, I knew that I wanted to put time into my blog. I have always enjoyed writing and web design and knew I would need something to keep me productive. I’m so amazed at how far my blog has come along in the past two weeks alone. I have migrated to WordPress and switched to self-hosting, I also purchased a domain. Today I completed my calendar of posts for the whole of July – let me know if this is something you are interested in.

Life Organisation –

I have wanted to redecorate my bedroom for quite for some time, but haven’t been able to do it. I still haven’t quite decided on the colours just yet, but when I go for it I write a post on how it looks after I have finished it.

When I return to work I want a new slate for myself, to do this I need to sort out all of my direct debits and cancel anything that is not essential. I also want to clear my credit cards. I will write a post in future about how I manage my credit cards and using them to build my credit rating.

Lastly, I want to create goals for when I’m back to work – for example; mortgage saving. I do already have an ISA at the moment but want to set a goal with a time scale. My career break has made me think about how I spend money and also what it is I want to achieve in future.

These are the five ways to live a healthy, positive & happy life that I recommend. Are there any other factors that contribute to your happiness in your life? Do you feel you have a quality work/life balance? Share your tips for maintaining work/life balance below!
